Using Collaborative Tools

As of right now I have not used collaborative tools very much when working with other people.  However, I have had the opportunity to use a few in my classes here at UNI.  I recall using a tool called the back channel in my Ed Tech and Design class.  This tool allowed the students in the class to talk about what was being said in the class while the lecture was going on.  I liked this tool because you were able to expand more on what was being said as well as ask questions to the other classmates if you didn't understand it.  However, the only thing that I did not like was that it was kind of distracting during the lecture.  Another tool that I have gotten the chance to use are the Google docs.  This tool allows you to write on a type of word document which you can share with other students.  I have used this with group research projects.  It is a great tool to use because you can share information back and forth between each other.  Collaborative tools are ingenious things to have access to because they can make research work so much better.  We don't always have the time to meet in person when working with others or we live too far away from each other.  By using collaborative tools we are able to get our work done in a more efficient manner.  For those of you who just have to talk face to face then using Skype is the way to go.  I have not had the opportunity to use this program, but I here many wonderful things about it.  The best part about it is that it is FREE!  If you are a little unsure about using because you don't know how to then vist this webpage

Introduction Presentation Experience

I really enjoyed getting a chance to watch these presentations.  I don't think enough teachers spend enough time on getting to know their students and allowing the classmates to get to know each other as well.  Since we will be spending about four months with each other it is important that we know who is in our class, so that two months from now we don't have to find ourselves in a situation where we have to ask what the other person's name is.  Another thing that I liked about these presentations was that you allowed us to present whatever we thought was important about ourselves and allowed us to present the material in a way of our choosing.  It's nice when teachers give you this kind of creative freedom.  Some of the ways that technology can be used when giving a presentation can be found by visiting this website.  Although it was a little weird because throughout my college career I have been told exactly what needs to be done for the assignments given.  I believe that these creative presentations are an example of the way that this class is going to go.  It will be relaxed and unique to us depending on the individual aesthetics that we will bring into the classroom as well as with our projects.

My Expectations For Classroom Computer Applications

This semester I hope to gain more tools for my educational technology tool belt.  All of my life I have never really been all that good at anything involving technology.  When I took the Ed Tech and Design class here at UNI I was excited to do the class in order to further my knowledge on technology.  Especially technology that I can incorporate into the classroom setting.  At first when the educational technology minor was presented to me I thought that it would just be a great asset to have when applying for jobs.  But, now as I started taking some technology classes I have grown to appreciate how valuable this minor will be to me as a future educator.  As I was growing up technology was always in my life.  However, it has grown so much over the past few years that what I learned in my day will not suffice when I get out into the real world and have my first teaching job.  I hope that being in this class and other subsequent technology classes I will be able to learn how to effectively incorporate technology into my future classroom.  I have come to realize that technology has grown so much and that it will keep on growing until it is the most dominant part of our world.  I believe that it will be ignorant of us not to come to this realization and to educate us on these new technologies that we will inevitably have to use in our classrooms whether we want to or not.  The world is changing and we need to change with it or else we will get lost in the shuffle.  I hope that by taking this course I will be better prepared to not only understand the new technological advances being made in education, but to embrace them as well.  Here is a link to an additional resource about integrating technology into the classroom.  This website gives instructions on how I as well as other educators can infuse technology into the classroom.  Click here to go to this website.
